Sarah Wei Lau’s Expertise Sarah advises on multiple aspects of law, including corporate, commercial, real estate, immigration, employment, and crime. She has a background in International Commercial Law, and recently led the legal team who managed the reporting and corporate work of the 1M partnership between Innovate UK, the UK government’s innovation arm, and TusPark UK, China’s largest innovation ecosystem, to deliver the first UK-China investment and accelerator programme. She was also Manchester’s first Chinese Barrister-at-law, called to the English Bar in 1998 and was a practising barrister for 11 years. Sarah also advises early-stage technology startups on issues such as matters related to fundraising, intellectual property protection, joint venture, and commercial agreements. She also has first-hand operational experience of building and running a tech startup, having co-founded a Property Tech startup and SaaS platform as its head of legals. As she speaks English, Mandarin and Cantonese fluently, she is especially well placed to advise Chinese and East Asian clients with complex needs, on the best practices for working in the UK. Sarah is also able to assist UK corporations and organisations who would like to expand their global footprint in China via joint venture, trade, or the establishment of a subsidiary office. She can advise on company formation, corporate and commercial matters, tax, and intellectual property protection for China, as well as coach on cultural best-practices for conducting business in China and East Asia. Sarah is passionate about social causes and is on the Board of Trustees for Wai Yin Society, a Chinese-founded charity in Manchester and now one of the largest BME centres in Manchester providing employment, education and community services for Chinese men and women and all ethnic minority groups.
